Have you experienced a sense of longing with something in your life before or as for this moment?
Stable job, good grades, good health, satisfying relationship, social acceptance, peaceful home atmosphere, faithful friends, or maybe you don’t know what your longings are.
This world offers us a lot of different studies in which are we exposed to. In which we are to occupy our minds with. We select different methods of coping mechanisms to have our mind set and steady, to feel that we are stress free from the daily anxiety in a constant search for that solution to eliminate human fretfulness. But all our efforts are in vain if we won’t get the subscription from the greatest Doctor ever roamed the earth. We will be found wanting and all will just be a feel-good story.
The Saviour knows how to save His flock from Snares. It’s not just about nets, darts, spears, and all other traps anymore; it’s the attacks in the mind that we are to guard. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”-Ephesians 6:12
Let’s discover what are those 7 ways are.
1. DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD
“Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”- psalm 37:4-5
The verse itself is very understandable. We have to submit, commit, and know His role. We must understand what He can do in this life. Because He Himself is life.
2. DON’T BE DOUBTFUL
“And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.”- Luke 12:29-31
Don’t doubt His ways, don’t worry for what might come based on your experiences of what had came. As the print of the Zebras are different with each other, our opportunities then can clearly be different from the past. That desire, the endless longing of something, can end and can be obtained if we set Christ first, last, and always in our lives. All those things will just be added, an extra scoop of rice in your healthy feast of life.
3. ASK IN HIS NAME
“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” – John 14:13
Pray. Never was prayer excluded in the part of the saving plan of Christ. It is the mode of communication that has been left to sinful mortals in order to maintain their connection to God. Prayers also has its Do’s-and-Dont’s and to pray in the name of Jesus is the acceptable mode in which God is well pleased.
4. WALK UPRIGHTLY
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”-Psalms 84:11
Consider the story of Job; that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and shuns evil. If you have the commitment, the trust, and the constant communion with your maker, then surely you’ll walk uprightly as Job did. In return you’ll get; the desire of your heart, as long as it is in parallel with God’s plan.
“ Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;” – 2 Corinthians 9:7,12
If you are upright then the goodness that you’ve imitated from Christ will find its way to manifest it into the sin-covered majority. As what the Bible says: “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”-James 2:26 Thus, your sense of responsibility in helping others who are in need cannot be contained. If you do this, then your time and desires will be redirected from the unnecessary longing for something that is base into something that is noble. In return, you have engaged yourself into an act that unarguably important in the growth of an aspiring Christian.
6. BRING FORTH FRUIT
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” – John 15:16
It has been said that by their fruits you shall know them. Bringing souls to Christ is the most joyful feeling into a Christian. Have you experienced the same feeling? If not; try your best, with prayers, to achieve such feat. The result may be long, tiring, and cannot be seen immediately but remember that to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens. In doing so, the promise is given plainly and clearly in the verse above.
7. WAIT ON THE LORD
“Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.” – Psalms 33:20-22
If there is something or someone you have to wait for in your life, it would be Christ. No one besides Him offers salvation, gives victory, and assured your seat in the Heavens above. Only in Him can you find the absolute happiness in which every wayward soul has been seeking from the start of the great controversy between Christ and His adversary, Satan.
Only in Christ will the longing be satisfied.
Now, if ever there is a circumstance in our lives that gives us doubt about its importance. Is it really good to pursue such course? such want? such longing? Consult the Bible first and you can differentiate the things the are not worth longing for and worth the wait.
“ God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.” – Hebrews 11:40
A better, useful, essential, flourished, fruitful, noble, and righteous life is lived. We are not to waste our lives, we have now known what are the things we must do to destroy the longing that we’ve experienced.
All the 7 of those pointed to 1: Jesus Christ.
